Volunteering
Micah's is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We have those who have chosen to donate in order to provide sponsorships for families who need financial assistance. Each student learns the opportunity that is before them to give back in a way that will help others like they were helped without receiving anything in return from those they are volunteering to help.
Short-term Attendance
Micah's is not just a space for students to attend and graduate from. Some families need us for mastery of their short-term goals. Those who need Dyslexia support attend full-time for additional support with our phonics program that aligns with our Dyslexia Therapist's curriculum. Our Dyslexia full-time support is a 2 year/3 day a week program, then maintenance can be scheduled for a continuum of services.
Continuum of Services
Partnerships have allowed for Micah's to collaborate with a continuum of services for Early Education Children and beyond graduation. This partnership is a vision of our friends from Good Shepherd with the collaborative efforts of Jullia's Place. In addition, our partnerships with Youth Developmental Center, Jubilee Therapy, United Way, and Port City Kiwanis. Likewise, we partner with Good Shepherd and Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation through a grant to provide multiple Job Extravaganza's for our targeted student population and counties.
Individualized Curriculum
Character Development
Developing character and who we are is an important aspect of growing . When beginning at Micah's, each student and teacher choose a word of "How do you want to be remembered?". In addition to the word, we choose a scripture or inspirational quote that connects with our word.
Leadership Development
When learning how to lead, one must follow; however, not in a negative way, but positively. Also, learning how to create a shared leadership space for all to feel seen and heard. This is important when building confidence and self-esteem. When one is not feeling their best or having a good day, taking time to serve another with an act of kindness models after Jesus with love and demonstrates servant leadership.
Mentoring
Spiritual Growth
In the summer of 2023, we partnered with Camp Wesley Pines for Wesley Water Walkers for children, youth and their families that wanted to experience a faith-filled camp with all things camp! This pilot was so successful that we are continuing each summer! A weekly Chapel has been incorporated within the regular work week. There is so much joy as we grow spiritually together. Since camp and chapel, we have enjoyed experiencing 4 professions of faith with our youth, including baptisms. We will have a baptism in the lake at the summer 2024 camp! Glory to God!!! He is doing great things in the lives of our children and youth!!!
